Fans of Village Ice Cream’s signature salted caramel — or any of the other tasty creations — will soon have a second spot where they can get their hands on cones and cups.
The ice cream shop is opening a new location in Britannia Plaza — at Elbow Drive and 50th Ave. SW — later this summer, offering the same artisanal, small-batch ice cream as the Victoria Park location.
Owner Billy Friley is happy to have found a spot in a great neighbourhood that will give people in the area a spot to wander over to for some ice cream.
“Neighbourhood ice cream shops do great things for neighbourhoods,” he says.
McKinley Burkart Design Group is handling the look of the space, formerly occupied by a lingerie store, which Friley says will be similar to the original location with lots of natural materials like wood.
Like the Victoria Park location, all of the ice cream, cones, sauces and sandwiches will be made on site.
“If you’re eating the salted caramel at Victoria Park, it was made in Victoria Park. And the Guide’s Mint at Britannia will be made 10 feet from the dipping cabinet,” he says.
The new spot is expected to be open by late August or early September.
